About the project

GPD Contracts delivered the external wall insulation and architectural façade package at Crowngate, Worcester, working to a high-profile commercial specification. The works consisted of a Non Combustible EWI system with a silicone render finish, by STO UK.

In addition and part of the re-imagining of the old 50’s façade. We were pleased to assist in the design and development of the period styling, using  STODeco Verolith architectural period profiles and mouldings. The revolutionary material made from reconstituted volcanic rock is both light and extremely versatile.

The result was a complete change to the aesthetic and a cornerstone to an area of the city that continues to see significant investment and regeneration.

Wetherby Mineral Wool Silicone EWI to metal frame & masonry construction & Brick Slips

About the project

GPD Contracts supplied and installed the A1 Non-combustible EWI Mineral Wool Silicone EWI system from Wetherby systems. The project was in two parts, consisting of a silicone render finish to the rear elevations and courtyard and a clay brick slip finish to the front public realm elevations.

The scheme wasn’t without its challenges following removal of the existing façade. As is often the case, once stripped the EWI system specification became significantly more complicated. GPD were pleased to liaise with the system provider Wetherby and our client BAM (Midlands) to identify solutions to those challenges. Using a combination of standard details based on metal-frame and masonry constructions present.

Paradise View, a major residential development in Birmingham city centre. The scheme forms part of a £25 million regeneration project comprising build-to-rent apartments, retail space and amenity facilities, requiring a robust, thermally efficient and enduring exterior envelope suitable for high-occupancy use. Works were carried out in accordance with specification and performance standards expected on a large-scale urban development.

GPD Contracts delivered the external façade package to Cambourne Village College for Kier construction Midlands & East. Part of a major educational development to keep pace with the expanding rural community in Cambourne, Cambridgeshire.

Works comprised of the supply & installation of StoRend Fibre Plus with silicone finish in bright white & a bold and vibrant orange shade to assist in delivering a focused design. To deliver a robust, weather-resistant external envelope suited to high-use education facilities. The college forms a key part of the campus designed to meet expanding local demand for secondary education, constructed with modern build techniques and high-performance materials within a tight programme.

Wetherby Mineral Wool Silicone EWI System

About the project

GPD Contracts were delighted to be working again with our local partner Speller Metcalfe Ltd.

GPD supplied and installed the Non-combustible EWI system: Wetherby Mineral Wool Silicone EWI system as part of the sustainable retrofit of the Animal Studies Centre at Dudley College of Technology in Dudley. The project transformed a redundant 1950s building into a high-performance, low-carbon educational facility with enhanced thermal performance and durable external cladding.

Dudley College’s New Animal Science Centre Secures Multiple Major Design and Sustainability Awards.

The transformation of the former 1950s gymnasium into a state‑of‑the‑art animal care facility has earned major awards in 2025.

The honours highlight the project’s innovative engineering, exemplary sustainability strategy and the collaborative approach taken by the entire design & delivery team.

Recognition, not only for design but also for Integration & Collaborative Working, reflecting the success of the Integrated Project Insurance (IPI) procurement model used to deliver the scheme.

GPD Contracts have been delivering phased façade works as part of the Stroud and Five Valleys regeneration scheme since 2019. Regeneration for Stroud Regeneration Ltd, contributing to the broader transformation of the Merrywalks/Five Valleys town centre retail and mixed-use environment in Stroud. Our scope of works has been wide ranging including:

  • Wetherby Mineral Wool External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems applied to both metal-frame and masonry substrate
  • Non insulated Silicone Render with either a silicone K or brick slip finish
  • Supply & Install a vast range of Period style Light-weight Architectural profiles and mouldings.

This sustained programme of external upgrades complements town centre renewal efforts designed to enhance urban vitality and commercial viability.

GPD Contracts were delighted to work with Galliford Try in delivering a complex internal Render solution within a high humid environment. As part of the refurbishment and expansion of the Alan Higgs Leisure Complex in Coventry.

The scope of work comprised of installing a rendered faced to the main 50m pool area to a metal framed construction, using Saint Gobain Weber sealed rendered rainscreen to control vapour transmission to the public areas, including the installation of a suitable cementitious render board and associated substrate preparation.

The exact opposite of needing a render facade to breath! Something we spend a lot of time considering 😊

About the project

GPD Contracts supplied and installed a non-combustible EWI system at Cheltenham. The STO Mineral Wool EWI system for Metal framed constructions was part of the new facilities development works at Cheltenham General Hospital in Gloucestershire for their Oncology and clinical facilities led by Kier Construction under the Procure22 framework.

The works formed part of a wider programme to modernise the hospital estate, enhancing thermal performance and durability on a busy healthcare campus while contributing to long-term operational and sustainability goals.

Wetherby Silicone Render to Masonry

About the project

GPD Contracts supplied and installed a Silicone Render package at Plot 1A, Prospero Ansty Park, a major commercial and industrial business park near Coventry.

The render installation contributed to a high-quality external finish on masonry elevations on the new multi-storey car park. Supporting the development’s objective of durable, visually defined build-to-suit accommodation at this flagship site.

The Wetherby silicone render selected for the façade not only satisfied the design objectives with the statement black shade, whilst also satisfying technical requirements of the vapour impermeable requirement outlined in the architect specification.

GPD were happy to assist in liaising with Wetherby and the design stakeholders to deliver system features key to requirements of the wider design.

Knauf Marmorit rendered rainscreen – silicone render system

About the project

GPD Contracts installed the Knauf Marmorit rendered rainscreen system with silicone finish as part of the façade works at Newtown School, Powys, a major redevelopment of the educational campus led by Wilmott Dixon (West & Wales). The works provided clean linear design to the new Welsh speaking school.

The system provide was a non-insulated Rendered Rainscreen to include Knauf External Aquapanel to timber frame construction. GPD were pleased to also supply & install the PPC aluminium flashings throughout the scheme.
